After weeks of preparation, pre-season friendlies and plenty of anticipation, the wait is finally over.
Competitive football returns to the Estadio Municipal Guillermo Amor on Sunday as CF Benidorm begin their 2026/27 Lliga Comunitat campaign at home to CD Jávea. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 local time in Spain (11:00 UK), with Benidorm looking to start the new campaign with three points in front of their home supporters.
For a club with ambitions of competing towards the top of the division, there is no better way to begin than with a strong performance on home soil.
A fresh season and fresh ambitions
CF Benidorm head into the new campaign with plenty of ambition. Last season ended with the club finishing second in the group with 65 points, just one point behind Eldense B, before going on to compete in the promotion play-offs.
This season brings a new chapter, with Sergio Mora taking charge of the first team. The club has already made it clear that the aim is to compete towards the top of the table, and after an encouraging pre-season, Sunday provides the first opportunity to turn that ambition into points.
Jávea arrive with something to prove
CD Jávea finished sixth in the Lliga Comunitat last season, recording ten wins, ten draws and ten defeats across their 30 league matches — a respectable campaign, but one that the club clearly wants to improve upon.
Head coach Julio Ivorra has made it clear that Jávea’s ambitions are higher this season, with the club targeting a position towards the top of the table and ultimately hoping to compete for promotion. That makes this an intriguing opening fixture.
Jávea aren’t travelling to Benidorm simply to make up the numbers. They have their own ambitions, and an away win against one of the sides expected to challenge near the top would certainly make a statement.
The visitors also arrive in form, finishing their final four pre-season friendlies unbeaten: a 1-1 draw with Ontinyent 1931, a 2-1 win over Villajoyosa CF, a comeback 2-1 victory against Pego CF, and a goalless draw against Atlético Jonense.
While pre-season form can only tell us so much, it does suggest Benidorm will face a side arriving in confident mood.
Familiar Opponents, a New Chapter
There is some recent history between the two clubs. When the sides met at the Guillermo Amor last season, Benidorm came out on top with a 3-0 victory, while the earlier meeting ended in a goalless draw.
But with both squads undergoing changes during the summer, neither team can rely on what happened previously. Sunday represents a fresh start — and a chance for both clubs to set out their stall from the very first game.
An early test of Benidorm’s ambitions
There is perhaps no need to put too much pressure on the first game of a 30-match league campaign.
At the same time, it is difficult not to get excited about what Sunday’s fixture could tell us. Benidorm are targeting a place towards the top of the Lliga Comunitat, while Jávea will be equally determined to prove they can compete at the same level. That should make for a competitive opening-day contest.
For Benidorm, getting off to a positive start would provide an early boost and allow the team to build some momentum heading into the season. For Jávea, taking points away from the Guillermo Amor would send a strong message that their own promotion push should be taken seriously.
There is still a long way to go after Sunday’s match, but both teams will want to make their intentions clear from the beginning.
The season starts here
The new season. The new challenges. The opportunity to chase promotion once again.
And now, finally, the competitive football is back.
