CF Benidorm’s perfect start to the 2026/27 season came to an end on Sunday as they were held to a goalless draw by CD Almoradí at the Estadio Municipal Guillermo Amor.
Going into the game, the two sides could hardly have had more contrasting starts to the campaign. Almoradí sat 14th in the 16-team league with just one win from their opening four matches, while CF Benidorm arrived at the top of the table having won all four of their games.
On paper, Benidorm would have expected to extend their winning run to five matches and maintain their perfect start. However, football is rarely that straightforward.

Benidorm created enough chances during the afternoon to have won two or three games, but despite controlling large periods and repeatedly going close, they simply could not find the breakthrough.
The game was also overshadowed by a serious head injury to Benidorm player Arona midway through the second half. Play was stopped for more than 20 minutes as medical attention was provided, with an ambulance called onto the pitch before Arona was taken to hospital.
At that point, the football understandably became secondary. The priority was Arona’s wellbeing, with everyone inside the stadium hoping he was receiving the treatment he needed.
Play eventually restarted around the 98th minute, with a further 22 minutes to be played. Despite the difficult circumstances and lengthy interruption, the Benidorm players reacted well. They continued to push and showed plenty of determination right through to the final whistle, but unfortunately they could not find the winning goal.
The final result was 0–0.
It is undoubtedly a frustrating afternoon for Benidorm given the chances they created and the expectation coming into the match, particularly after such an impressive opening four games. The result also means their perfect record is over, although they remain unbeaten.
Still Top of the Table
Despite dropping their first points of the campaign, CF Benidorm remain top of the league with 13 points from their opening five matches. However, the picture could change after the remaining fixtures from this round are played.
Alberic currently sit just three points behind Benidorm with the same goal difference. They face Novelda UCF on Monday evening, meaning a victory would see Alberic move above Benidorm and take top spot. There are also other fixtures still to be played that could have an impact on the early league table, so Benidorm will have to wait until the round is completed to see exactly where they stand.
For now, though, five games into the season, Benidorm remain unbeaten and right in the mix at the top of the table.
