Welcome back to the CF Benidorm UK Weekend Review, where we look back at the latest results, news and talking points from across the club.
It was an unusual weekend for CF Benidorm, with severe weather warnings disrupting the football schedule. Both senior first teams saw their fixtures postponed, while the men’s and women’s youth teams were in action on Saturday, producing contrasting results.
However, the main talking point was undoubtedly the postponement of the highly anticipated clash between first-placed CF Benidorm and second-placed CD Olímpic Xàtiva.
First Team: Top-of-the-Table Clash Postponed
Sunday, 18 October, was set to bring one of the biggest fixtures of the season so far, as CF Benidorm prepared to face CD Olímpic Xàtiva.
Scheduled for 12:00 local time (11:00 UK time), the meeting between the top two sides promised to be a significant fixture in the race for promotion. However, the match was postponed following a red weather warning issued by Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
The Football Federation of the Valencian Community (FFCV) announced the suspension of official matches scheduled for Sunday, 18 October, across the provinces of Valencia and Alicante. Matches in Castellón province involving travel from another province were also affected.
As a result, supporters will have to wait a little longer to see CF Benidorm take on CD Olímpic Xàtiva in what had been one of the most anticipated fixtures of the weekend. A new date for the match is yet to be announced. Supporters should keep an eye on the club’s official channels and CF Benidorm UK for further updates.
Women’s First Team: Season Opener Delayed
The postponement also affected CF Benidorm’s women’s first team, who were due to begin their campaign away against At. Sant Joan C.D. ‘A’.
Competing in 1ª Regional Valenta – Grup 3, the team had been preparing to get their season underway. However, the weather-related suspension means their opening fixture must wait. The team will now look ahead to their rearranged fixture, with a new date yet to be confirmed.
Youth & Reserve Football: Mixed Results on Saturday
Although the senior fixtures were postponed on Sunday, both the youth and reserve teams were able to play their respective matches on Saturday, with contrasting results across the club.
CF Benidorm B: A Point Away from Home
CF Benidorm B, representing the club in the Tercera FFCV league , secured a 2-2 draw away against F.B. Teulada-Moraira ‘B’.
The result saw the side claim a point on their travels in a competitive encounter, providing a positive contribution to the weekend’s results across the club.
Women’s Youth Team: Defeat at Home
The women’s youth team suffered a 6-1 home defeat against Real de Gandia C.F. in the Lliga Juvenil Caixa Popular Valenta – Grup 4.
It was a difficult result for the team, who will now look to regroup and turn their attention towards their next fixture as their campaign continues.
Looking Ahead
The weather may have disrupted the weekend’s schedule, but there was still football involving CF Benidorm across the youth teams.
The men’s B team earned a 2-2 draw away from home, while the women’s youth team experienced a difficult afternoon against Real de Gandia C.F.
Attention now turns to the next round of fixtures for the senior sides. The men’s first team are due to travel away to CE Alberic Sucemart, while the women’s first team are set to return to home action against CF Inprosports S. Vicente.
Supporters will also be waiting for confirmation of a new date for the postponed top-of-the-table clash against CD Olímpic Xàtiva and the rearranged women’s season opener against At. Sant Joan C.D. ‘A’.
