The pre-season preparations for CF Benidorm’s senior women’s team are now well underway, with the squad already having completed two testing fixtures as they build towards the start of the new league campaign.
The opening friendly provided an entertaining start to pre-season as Benidorm came through a seven-goal contest against C.D. El Campello with an impressive 5–2 victory. It was an encouraging way to begin the preparations, giving the squad valuable minutes and an opportunity to begin building their rhythm ahead of the competitive season.
The second test brought a considerably tougher challenge, with Benidorm travelling away to face At. Jonense. On this occasion, the hosts came out on top, with Benidorm falling to a 3–1 defeat. Despite the result, the fixture provided another valuable opportunity for the squad to test themselves against experienced opposition and continue developing as a team.
According to CF Benidorm Femenino’s official social media account, At. Jonense offered more in front of goal, had a clear idea of how they wanted to play and had plenty of veteran experience on the pitch. That experience was noticeable during the contest, providing Benidorm with another useful lesson during the early stages of pre-season.
For Benidorm, the focus at this stage is very much on the bigger picture. The squad are continuing to build minutes, get to know one another on the pitch and develop their identity as a team. Pre-season provides the opportunity to experiment, identify areas that need improving and make corrections before the matches begin to carry competitive points.
The 3–1 defeat therefore needs to be viewed within that wider context. The result was not what Benidorm wanted, but these are exactly the types of games that can help a developing squad understand where they currently stand and what still needs to be worked on. With the league campaign still ahead, there remains plenty of time to continue making progress.
The opening two matches have already provided very different tests for the squad. A 5–2 victory against El Campello was followed by a 3–1 defeat against At. Jonense, giving Benidorm both the confidence of an attacking performance and the experience of being tested by a more experienced opponent.
There is still plenty of work ahead, but that is precisely what pre-season is about. The senior women’s team will continue to build towards the start of the league campaign, with each fixture providing another opportunity to improve, develop their style of play and build the foundations for the season ahead.
CF Benidorm Femenino also wished At. Jonense the best of luck for the new season, with the club expecting them to be competing towards the top end of the table. For Benidorm, the attention now turns towards the next stage of their own preparations as they continue working towards being ready when the competitive action begins.
